An antique chaise longue from circa 1870, but not restored in the usual way.
During the restoration, I discovered a beautiful handmade wooden frame with a traditional upholstery construction. Normally, such an interior disappears completely under foam and fabric. I found that to be a shame. That is why I chose to leave part of the construction visible. The new blue webbing, the artisanal wooden frame, and the original structure now tell the story of how furniture used to be made together. Not as decoration, but as part of the design.
The chaise longue has been fully technically inspected and, where necessary, rebuilt using traditional upholstery techniques. The new upholstery is made of a high-quality Kobe furniture fabric, which contrasts beautifully with the raw wood and the visible construction.
The result is a piece of furniture that sits on the border between restoration and contemporary design: not necessarily intended as a comfortable functional object, but above all as a remarkable conversation starter. Details
