This small bronze or brass figurine depicts a secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius) with her chicks, a large bird of prey native to Africa. I can therefore conclude with certainty that it was made in Africa. It is antique, probably from the late 19th century, and was used as a counterweight on a small scale. These small decorative weights were often used on scales for gold powder. Very detailed and in excellent condition. A true collector's item!
