A delightful small purse box from the 1930s-1940s, both elegant and precious due to the care taken in its design. Oval-shaped, it is topped with a beautiful polished banded agate plaque, whose natural shades follow one another in irregular bands, from cream to honey, then from brown to almost black-gray. The stone possesses that particular depth characteristic of agate, each layer slowly narrating its formation and making its pattern an absolutely unique composition. The contrast with the silver-plated metal is particularly striking. The finely worked surround frames the stone like a small jewel, while the reverse reveals an elegant engraved decoration of flowers, foliage, and stylized volutes, characteristic of the decorative taste of the interwar period. This type of small box belonged to the world of feminine accessories that were carried along. Its compact size allowed it to slip into a handbag to hold a few pills or lozenges, pins, a small piece of jewelry, or those small personal items that one wished to treasure. Inside, its original light-colored lining remains, as well as a small handwritten label under the lid, a discreet trace of its history.
