Art Nouveau sideboard/display cabinet in solid oak, circa 1900. This sideboard is the upper section of an antique buffet from former Silesia. The lower section was unfortunately lost in the Ahr Valley flood. To preserve the upper section, it was lovingly refinished in cream white and mounted on iron hairpin legs. The crowning element was an empty box with a nailed-on lid, perhaps once a secret compartment. Two hinges were added to the lid for opening, allowing the box to be used as ample storage space. The doors have oval glass panels, and in the center is an open compartment with a small pedestal below. The back is inscribed with the name and the Friedland depot to which the buffet was transported. The story of how the cabinet ended up in Ahrweiler remains a mystery. This sideboard/buffet now complements both antique and modern interiors as a beautiful and attractive piece. Dimensions are: L 147 x D 34 cm (measured at the top); without the top: L 135 x D 33 cm; height 123 cm; leg height 40 cm; interior lid compartment: L 131 x W 29.5 x H 16 cm. Condition: Antique and naturally used, but after restoration, the sideboard shows only minimal signs of wear, except on the lid, where some signs of age are still present, but these are not particularly noticeable. Overall, the sideboard is in beautiful condition and a real eye-catcher. Collection preferred. The legs can be unscrewed if necessary, or shipping via transport is possible.
