There was a time when letters were awaited. When each envelope carried its weight of hope, news, or secrets, and was opened slowly, almost ceremoniously. This antique letter opener belongs to that world. A beautiful, large antique desk piece (approximately 24 cm), adorned with a delicate floral relief depicting a rosebud and its foliage, in a design with supple and organic lines characteristic of Art Nouveau. Its elegant silhouette, patinated ivorine material, and naturalistic decoration evoke those everyday objects once carefully designed, when utility also had to be beautiful. Manufactured in the early 20th century, circa 1900 to 1925. Traces of use consistent with age, golden patina on the handle. A decorative as well as functional object, ideal for an office, a library, or a collection of antique correspondence items. A discreet witness to a time when writing held significance, and opening a letter was already a story in itself.
