Description:
Offered: An exceptionally complete and aesthetic 4-piece antique toilet set from the early twentieth century (estimated period 1900-1920). The set is in remarkably good and well-maintained condition and constitutes a striking example of applied art from the Art Nouveau period.
Characteristics and Style:
The set is distinguished by the refined petrol blue/green transferware technique (underglaze print decoration). The decor depicts a romantic, naturalistic hunting scene with detailed images of deer in a wooded setting and a swan on the water. The rims are finished with a sleek, geometric Art Nouveau bow embroidery. Characteristic of the design are the angular, architectural handle of the water jug and the elegantly profiled lids of the accessories. Possible Producers:
Although the set contains no factory marks—which was more common in this period for components of larger dinner services and toilet sets—the specific casting molds, the glaze quality, and the theme clearly point to renowned Belgian or Northern French earthenware factories. Examples include:

Condition:
The set is in very beautiful antique condition. A major plus is the interior of the washbasin and the water jug: these have remained remarkably bright white and are free from the heavy limescale or dark discoloration common in this type of earthenware. The lid of the soap dish shows a fine, superficial age-related hairline, consistent with its age and not detracting from the overall appearance.
