Beautiful pair of 19th-century porcelain cups, marked J.P. on the bottom. Fine white porcelain with hand-painted decoration of pink roses, grey/green foliage, and beautiful golden dragonflies, finished with gilding. Featuring an old Brussels merchant's stamp on the bottom: N. Van den Torgen-Verbruggen – Rue Royale / Rue Neuve, Bruxelles. The J.P. marking is attributed to Jean Pouyat from Limoges. The red oval stamp above tells the rest of the story of this object: N. VAN DEN TORREN VERBRUGGEN: This was the name of the Belgian shopkeeper, merchant, or importer who sold the piece at the time. RUE ROYALE / RUE NEUVE BRUXELLES: These are the locations of the chic shopping streets in Brussels (Rue Royale and Rue Neuve) where this merchant was established. Suitable for decorative use due to their vintage condition.
