ANDO - COMPLETE WORKS - PHILIP JODIDIO Large-format photobook summarizing the complete work to date of Japanese architect Tadao Ando (born 1941). Ando received several awards such as the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1995, the Carlsberg Architectural Prize and the Médaille d'or de l'Académie française d'architecture. 58 of his designs are presented in detail, including the 1976 Row House Sumiyoshi in Osaka, the 2006 Maritime Museum in Abu Dhabi and the 2009 renovation of the Puente della Dogana in Venice. In addition to photographs of the results, the book includes some accompanying design sketches. The often full-page photographs (in color and black and white) and sketches are complemented by brief explanations in German, French and English (no Dutch). The book begins with a consideration of Ando's architecture in the context of philosophical and historical influences on it. It ends with a summary overview of all Ando's work, a bibliography and a chronology. The book is a wonderful object of introduction to the work of Tadao Ando.
