Brass HO scale (1:87) model of an ALCO RSD-12 diesel-electric locomotive, as can be read on the nameplate "RSD-12 Locomotive for NV Grassalco", built as a promotional or presentation model for the Surinamese limited liability company Grassalco. N.V. Grassalco (Grasshopper Aluminium Company) is a Surinamese state-owned mining company that was established in August 1971. The company focuses primarily on the exploration and exploitation of minerals and crushed stone.
Brass models, often produced by specialized importers such as ALCO Models or builders in Japan and South Korea, are handcrafted and produced in very small batches.
The nameplate states that the model is intended for "NV Grassalco," indicating that this presentation model was not manufactured until after 1971 (the company's founding). In the 1970s and early 1980s, it was common for industrial trade agents (such as Anbel Trading) to have such brass import models engraved and given them as gifts during the (potential) sale, financing, or import of heavy equipment and projects.
This is a vintage item. This means it has been used. Items are not new or perfect, but they are very beautiful! Most vintage items show signs of wear. The extent to which these signs of use are present is stated in the description. Photos are part of this description. Please examine them carefully. Vintage (read: used) items sometimes show color variations, uneven wear, and/or normal wear. Please take this into account when making a purchase.
