Amphora vase in Murano cut glass, Scavo Seguso Vetri d'Arte technique
Have you ever seen this kind of vase, with its powdery enamel imitating vases from antiquity, without knowing what it is or where it comes from?
You're looking at a genuine Murano glass vase using the "Scavo" enameling technique! Created in 1950 by Murano master glassmaker Alfredo Barbini, this process uses a skilful blend of carbonates, nitrates and silica. Once applied to the glass, it is heated to over 800° Celsius. The result is a vase imitating the patina of antique glass objects found during archaeological excavations! This powdery effect is caused by a reaction of the glass in contact with the earth, after having been buried for several centuries.
A victim of its own success, the "Scavo" line of glass objects became THE trend of the 1950s, visible in the decoration of all living rooms and interiors at the cutting edge of midcentury design in all its forms: vases, sculptures and objets d'art. From the '50s to the '70s, these glassworks were produced with the quality of Murano craftsmanship by the Cenedese and then Seguso Vetri d'Arte workshops (from which this one originates), with its characteristic design: forms somewhere between archaic and art deco.
Lovers of Murano glassware with an antique look and 20th century Art Deco design, don't wait any longer! Adopt this Scavo Amphora vase without further ado!
