Ambrogio Pozzi (1931–2012)
Postmodern Geometric Vase
A.C.R. – Arte Ceramica Romana, Pomezia (Rome) · 1987
A documented 1987 design by Ambrogio Pozzi, produced by A.C.R. – Arte Ceramica Romana in Pomezia (Rome).
An identical model is held in the permanent collection of the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza (inv. n. 29483), confirming authorship, date, typology, and technical execution.
This is not simply a postmodern decorative object — it is a museum-documented work from late 20th-century Italian ceramic design.
Form & Architectural Language
The vase is conceived as a geometric construction:
* Rectangular plan
* Inverted truncated pyramid profile
* One lateral zig-zag edge
* Inserted triangular base
* Rectangular mouth with rounded rim
On the two principal viewing sides, the black pyramid of the base appears in relief, together with an inverted red pyramid whose side articulates into a stepped zig-zag.
The composition reads almost like a fragment of architectural elevation — structural, graphic, and spatially layered.
The bold chromatic blocking — black gloss, red insert, white ground with dotted field — generates a deliberate visual tension. The dotted pattern softens the geometry with optical rhythm, recalling the broader graphic vocabulary of 1980s Italian design culture.
This is sculptural ceramic conceived in dialogue with architecture.
Material & Technique (Museum-Documented)
Material: Terraglia forte (high-fired earthenware)
Forming: Slip casting (foggiatura a colaggio)
Glaze: Transparent glaze (vetrina trasparente)
Decoration: Third-firing decalcomania (a terzo fuoco)
High-temperature firing (cottura a gran fuoco)
The black dot decoration is applied via decal technique, not hand-painted — consistent with the refined production methods of A.C.R. in the 1980s.
The precision of the surfaces, sharp relief modelling, and clean chromatic separations reflect industrial ceramic expertise combined with strong artistic direction.

About Ambrogio Pozzi
Ambrogio Pozzi (1931–2012), active in the Gallarate–Varese sphere, was an important figure in late 20th-century Italian ceramic design. He collaborated with multiple Italian manufactories, integrating sculptural thinking with serial ceramic production.
