Elegant and iconic, this ALPINA typewriter embodies the refinement of post-war European industrial design.
ALPINA is a brand created in the 1950s in West Germany by Dr. Rudolph Bovensiepen.
The ALPINA company began by manufacturing typewriters and then gradually shifted its focus to mechanical calculators.
The SK33 model, manufactured in 1959/1960, was distinguished by its wide carriage, which could accommodate an A4 page lengthwise or widthwise, or even a C4 envelope without folding it. Furthermore, the Caps Lock key no longer moved the entire carriage, but only the cylinder, making typing in capital letters faster.
Its harmonious silhouette, highlighted by a subtle palette of pearl gray and ivory, immediately evokes the modernist aesthetic of that era.
Featuring an AZERTY keyboard with perfectly aligned round keys and a curved cover, this typewriter reflects a design conceived for both efficiency and elegance. A manufacturer's label is affixed to the back, and a protective cover sits on top.
A true writing instrument, this Alpina offers an authentic mechanical experience: the delicate resistance of the keys, the precise return of the carriage, and the characteristic musicality of the mechanism lend a unique character to each keystroke.
This typewriter is in very good condition with a light and refined patina, consistent with its age. It is functional, although the ribbon will need replacing in a few months.
Today, these typewriters are sought after not only for their remarkable craftsmanship but also as collector's items and prestigious decorative pieces for an office, study, or library. It is an object steeped in history, where aesthetics meet precision mechanics.
