This antique advertising pitcher, made of glazed stoneware, recounts a captivating chapter in the history of Puy-en-Velay's liqueur makers and the distillation tradition that long defined the reputation of Haute-Loire. Framboise du Velay is intimately linked to the Vey-Maurin company, heir to the Maurin-Brenas company, which was founded in Puy-en-Velay in 1884. In 1920, the company was taken over by Régis Vey, who was already familiar with the world of distilleries. Under his leadership, the company continued and developed its production of regional liqueurs and specialties, among which Framboise du Velay would acquire a particularly important position. This fruit liqueur achieved such success that its name gradually became inseparable from that of the company. During the 1960s and 1970s, Framboise du Velay established itself as a true commercial identity, in that great era when regional distilleries also competed in imagination to adorn tables, cafes, and counters with items bearing their colors. Our pitcher fully belongs to this world. Made of glazed stoneware, it features a generous, deep, and shiny amber-brown glaze, whose lighter variations naturally highlight the rich molded relief decoration. The body is entirely adorned with vegetal motifs, clusters, foliage, volutes, and beaded friezes. At the center is a light-colored cartouche bearing the inscription "Framboise du Velay – Liqueur," immediately highlighted by the contrast with the deep brown of the ceramic. The tall neck, the well-designed spout, and the large rounded handle give the pitcher a generous and very decorative silhouette. The particularly prominent relief gives it an almost sculptural character, akin to the fine advertising objects of that period. These pitchers were designed to accompany the marketing and serving of beverages in cafes, restaurants, and establishments serving the company's liqueurs. More than half a century later, they serve as charming testaments to an era when advertising objects were still designed to last and fully contribute to the decor of the counter or table. With a height of approximately 17 cm and an opening close to 8 cm, this example retains a very beautiful shiny glaze and perfectly legible decoration. The underside bears the marking "C.48". The piece is in very good condition, with no cracks or chips noted.
