Adolf Loos, AUSTRIA, 1870-1933
Adolf Loos, essentially called the Frank Llyoyd Wright of Europe by Wright himself, possessed a talent for architecture and interior design as powerful as his outspoken criticism of Art Nouveau and excessive ornamentation. A precursor of the International Style, Loos exercised enormous restraint in his building projects and in his designs for chairs, tables, storage units and other furnishings, and wrote frequently about his disdain for a decorative approach to architecture.
