Ad van Hassel (Roosendaal, 1953) trained as a visual artist in Maarten Krabbe's studio. There he developed skills in various techniques. Cityscapes, landscapes and flower still lifes are often the theme of his work. His cityscapes bear witness to an exceptionally sharp insight into spatial perspective. In his etchings in particular, a perspectival interplay of lines is depicted with a sense of detail and almost effortless accuracy. In 1985 an etching by him was therefore included in the Rijksprentenkabinet of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Between 1981 and 1986 Ad van Hassel had his own art dealership. But despite the business success, his work as an artist has increasingly taken over and he has re-established himself as a free artist several years ago. Previously he mainly worked from reality, now he gives free rein to his imagination and concentrates on screen printing, in which his preference for color play is given full scope. “Progress on a chosen path is important. Development instead of standing still. Only then is rejuvenation the result of the passing of time, to quote R. Tagore (1895): “Man is like a born child. His power is the ability to grow.”
