RARE ALDO VAN DEN NIEUWELAAR A252 TABLE LAMP FOR ARTIMETA (1972)
Aldo van den Nieuwelaar was a pioneer of modernist design, celebrated for his clean lines, functional clarity, and architectural aesthetic. Dutch manufacturer Artimeta produced several of his most iconic works in the early 1970s, including the renowned TC series—cementing Van den Nieuwelaar’s place in the canon of Dutch design.
Designed in 1972, this exceptional A252 table lamp is one of the rarest in his oeuvre, with only 223 units ever produced. It features a low, white-lacquered metal base supporting a softly curved opaline glass dome. When lit, the lamp casts a warm, ambient glow that transforms any space. The original Artimeta label remains intact on the base, a subtle but important detail confirming its authenticity.
The A252 belongs to a series of three models—A250, A251, and A252—each differing in scale and proportion. This particular version, with its low profile and sculptural simplicity, is highly sought after by collectors worldwide. In very good original condition with only minimal signs of age, it is a timeless piece of Dutch modernism.
