Loosdrecht, NetherlandsView all items from this sellerMuch copied - this is a set of 6x original French Tolix A chairs (also known as Marais A Chair), was designed in 1934 by the metalworker and functionalist Xavier Pauchard.
They are the original Tolix chairs, each:
- with the imprinted brand as shown in the photo;
- crossed braced underneath the seat (again as shown) for additional strength and solidity; with
- the original Tolix rubber feet.
They are stackable and bright light blue in colour - which fits with any modern deign aesthetic. Its great to have one set rather than to try and source individually.
They are the perfect design and patina for any bar, cafe or bistro as they are able to take heavy commerical use - but equally perfect, as we have had them - at home, for dining inside or out.
We purchased these in the UK approx 13 years ago - and brought them with us when we moved to the Netherlands.The appeal of these chairs reflects their their and the quality (not lasting in cheaper copies) so despite their age any signs of wear and use simply adds to the patina and does not detract from their design appeal. You can see from the photo the condition of the chairs.
The back of one chair is slightly loose - but it does not compromise use or strength - the back simply feels a little loose if you pick it up just by the back. The last photo shows that the back comes away from the seat approx. 3mm at one point if pulled, but as it is secured at the edges too. the back cannot come away from the seat. It could be re-secured underneath if desired.
