6x Frans van Praet vintage chairs Belgo Chrom 2000s minimalist design
Set of 6 rare chairs designed by Frans van Praet for Belgo Chrom / Belgochrom 2004, Belgium
East-West chairs, also known as the Lommel chair.
Produced in limited numbers, initially for the interior of the Lommel town hall in collaboration with architect Jo Crepain.
Nominated for the Henry van de Velde Award for Best Product.
Metal, metallic gray lacquered designer chairs. Folded steel with a simple, minimalist design.
For the Lommel town hall, he developed a lightweight, stackable chair that can be used both indoors and outdoors. The 'Lommel Chair' has a split seat and backrest, with a drainage system. The construction appears stiff and rigid, but the two-piece backrests do give slightly and are held together by a subtle metal detail with an Allen bolt.
The chairs are stackable. However, we don't recommend this due to the fragility of the metal parts. The underside likely had some sort of spacers or buffers, but unfortunately, these are no longer present.
The paint on the backs and seats shows clear signs of wear, such as scratches, stains, and smudges. The protruding corners of the seats also have some paint damage, and some of the paintwork is bubbling, which is difficult to photograph. There is some superficial rust on the underside; see photos.
