4x Hannes Wettstein "Alfa" dining room chairs for Molteni & Co
Alfa is made from "SMC" - an innovative glass fiber reinforced polyester resin composite used in the automotive industry. Three layers of varnish (two matt and one gloss) make the chair robust and sturdy. The design was created by bringing together only two parts: the backrest (which merges into the rear legs) and the seat (which merges into the front legs). The chair was 'born' in Wettstein's head, from the union of only two parts: one is the backrest, which continues into the back legs; the other is the seat that continues into the front legs. Both pieces are made of composite polyester resin composite material with added fiberglass. The 'alpha' chair was awarded the ICFF Editors Award in the US in 2001.
Hannes Wettstein (1958-2008) was one of the most interesting designers of his generation, creating projects ranging from products to communications and industrial design to architecture. He was known as one of the most innovative and influential designers of the Swiss school.
This set is finished in gray glossy lacquer and has some light signs of wear (see photos).
