Acrylic painting on canvas, which, within a 4 x 4 grid of sub-squares, constructively seeks to resolve several tensions: the contrast of color itself, the contrast of light and dark – as well as the quantitative contrast through varying numbers of different colored subgroups. The overall composition emerges from arranging the sub-areas of a selected color subgroup into a primary figure that stands in a harmonious or contrasting-dynamic relationship to the background of the surrounding secondary sub-areas.
