Set of 3 Bauhaus chairs by Mart Stam.
Based on the legendary S33 designed by Mart Stam in 1926. This could be the version for Robert Slezák or FN6 for Make-Melder (Czechoslovakia), or the S43 for Thonet.
These examples date from the 1930s and, in this version with rounded tubing, are very rare!
Cantilever tubular structure. Seats and backs are made of bent beech on plywood.
In good general condition. Signs of wear due to age. The corner of one of the chairs has been reglued. Two cracks in the armless seat.
Dimensions (Wd / Dp / Hg): 55 cm x 46 cm x 81 cm.
(Seat height: 45 cm).
These modernist chairs are almost 100 years old and still look so contemporary with their industrial design!
Mart STAM's S33 model is legendary because it revolutionized design history. Designed in 1926, these were the first chairs to replace the traditional four legs with a skid (or cantilever) base. They are often mistakenly attributed to Marcel BREUER, who was also involved in the BAUHAUS movement and was inspired by it to create his famous B34.
Bid starting at €650 for the three pieces.
Delivery possible around Brussels (+€20).
