This pair of vintage Medea side chairs was designed by Vittorio Nobili for the Italian manufacturer Fratelli Tagliabue in the 1950s. The design is celebrated for its distinctive organic silhouette, featuring a continuous seat and backrest with a central cutout that adds visual lightness to the form.
The chairs are constructed with a moulded plywood shell, which has been reupholstered in a vibrant green velvet. The upholstery is finished with decorative dark metal stud detailing along the back edges, adding a tailored touch. The shells are supported by slender, splayed tubular metal legs finished in black, characteristic of mid-century Italian design.
The chairs remain in good vintage condition, retaining their structural integrity while displaying character consistent with age and use. The green velvet upholstery provides a soft, tactile surface that contrasts effectively with the rigid metal base. This is reupholstered.
These Medea chairs serve as striking accent pieces in a living room, bedroom, or study. Their sculptural form and rich colour make them well-suited to mid-century modern interiors, eclectic spaces, or as a vibrant addition to a more minimalist setting.
