The original Sirocco chair was designed by Arne Norell in 1964 and was handmade in Sweden in the same factory that Norell founded in the 1960s. This model is a modern classic with all the features of a real safari chair. The design of this remarkable chair by Arne Norell fits into a long tradition of safari chairs. From Eileen Gray to Kaare Klint and Elias Svedberg, many major designers have created versions of self-assembled furniture, which likely have their origins in Indian Roorkhee chairs used by the British Army. The Sirocco is an interesting model because all the parts are turned and Norell has eliminated the swivel back braces, which hold the leather piece to the hind legs. The design is quite elaborate, with wooden dowels decorating the screw holes, seams in the leather and brass buckles. This chair has the original hand-stitched straps, backrest and seat made of brown leather with a beautiful patina. The chair also has the original removable seat cushion, covered in leather, which adds to the already high level of comfort. With its simple elegance, this chair, produced by Norell Möbel AB in Aneby, is truly timeless and fits into various interiors. The company was founded in 1954 by Arne Norell and has been a family business since its founding, continuing Norell's design legacy. In fact, the same factory that Arne Norell built in the 1960s is still where the company exists.
