Exceptional set of two white-glazed ceramic vases by the Dutch ceramist Jan van der Vaart (1931–2000). Both pieces are signed on the bottom with ‘VD VAART’ and his distinctive wheel mark. The vases are dated individually: one from 1973 and one from 1975. Characteristic of Van der Vaart’s work is the use of geometric, connectable, and stackable forms. These two vases can also be displayed separately or stacked on top of each other to form a single sculptural whole. Jan van der Vaart is one of the most important Dutch ceramists of the 20th century. His work is held in various Dutch museum collections. The Kunstmuseum Den Haag is currently presenting a major retrospective of his oeuvre. The set is in very good condition, with the glaze retaining its original luster.
