Two stunning Giso lamps. These were originally designed by Gispen, and made by Giso. In 1926, Gispen introduced the first collection of Giso lamps, a completely new form of lighting in the Netherlands. The Giso lamps were made of crystal glass covered with a very thin layer of opal glass. This "Giso glass" allowed more and paler light to pass through than conventional frosted glass. This resulted in higher light output, more economical energy consumption, and reduced glare. With the Giso lamps, GISO cleverly capitalized on the electrification of the Netherlands during the 1920s. Now, almost 100 years later, a large part of the GISO collection still consists of fixtures with opal, hand-blown shades. Two magnificent lamps: 14 cm high, 16 cm in diameter (glass), and 21 cm (base).
Only very serious bidding is required for both lamps together.
