Elegant pair of large antique plates from the Badonviller factory in Lorraine, part of the very beautiful Richelieu model. On fine ivory-toned earthenware, delicate blue-printed floral bouquets are arranged in succession. Roses, daisies, and foliage form a regular wreath around the well, in this monochrome palette which remains one of the great signatures of antique French tableware. The full charm of the Richelieu model also lies in its material craftsmanship. The rim features a particularly carefully crafted molded relief decoration, alternating vegetal motifs and small beads, while the scalloped edge is highlighted by a fine deep blue frieze. Light catches the earthenware's reliefs and gives the set a presence that the photographs capture particularly well. Badonviller is part of the rich history of Lorraine earthenware factories. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these factories produced dinner services that accompanied the transformation of bourgeois interiors. With Richelieu, Badonviller embraced the French taste for scalloped shapes and classic ornaments while adapting it to modern fine earthenware techniques. The reverse side bears the stamp Richelieu, Badonviller, F.T. Diameter approximately 26 cm. The plates have withstood the test of time and naturally bear its marks. There are old traces and browning in the wells, as well as a patina of use, all perfectly visible in the photographs. These characteristics have been taken into account in their pricing. More than a century after their creation, this blue on an ivory background retains a surprising freshness and integrates just as well into an antique table setting as into a contemporary interior.
