Two old stoneware storage jars, of different sizes, that tell the story of an era when these robust containers naturally filled kitchens, pantries, and larders. Their bulging shape, their two pierced side lugs, and their narrow openings are characteristic of utilitarian jars intended for preserving foodstuffs. The lugs, in particular, allowed for securing or tying down their closure system, which is now missing. The stoneware features a beautiful, deep, and brilliant brown glaze, with shades ranging from dark caramel to mahogany. The concentric striations that encircle the top of both jars beautifully highlight the potting wheel work and give them genuine decorative appeal. Old capacity markings are still visible on their bellies, recalling their primary function. The smaller one measures approximately 9 cm in height, with an opening of approximately 4.5 cm in diameter. The larger one measures approximately 11 cm in height, with an opening of approximately 6 cm in diameter. These two pieces have retained the irregularities of their crafting and the marks of time characteristic of utilitarian stoneware. The rim of the larger jar shows some small, old marks visible in the photographs, without detracting from its character. Together, they form a very charming duo of antique stoneware, easy to incorporate into a kitchen, on a wooden shelf, in a collection of folk pottery, or among more contemporary objects to play on the contrast of materials.
