For sale is a completely restored Thonet B35, armchair, in the original Marcel Breuer special edition with leather tension straps on the underside, in stunning condition.
There are a total of 2 pieces available.
OBJECT:
1x Thonet B35 cantilever armchair (today called S35L in another version)
Finish: Core leather with 5 leather tension belts on the underside, armrests stained and lacquered beech

DESCRIPTION:
With its lightness, mobility and comfort, the armchair outshines everything heavy and sluggish among the cantilever chairs of the Bauhaus era. In the 1930s, the modern attitude to life conveyed by the B35 was visionary; today it is part of our mobile and individual lifestyle. The leather upholstery and real wood armrests are as eye-catching today as they were then. With the B35, Marcel Breuer succeeded in designing all the functions of a free-swinging tubular steel armchair in a single continuous line that also incorporates the armrests. Breuer achieved a double cantilever effect with his design. The seat and armrests spring independently of each other. The swinging movement of the cantilevered seat and backrest frame is balanced by the springy armrests.
The comfortable club chair was first shown in 1930 during the now famous presentation of the Deutscher Werkbund at the "Salon des Artistes Décorateurs" in Paris. There it was part of the furnishings of a prototypical high-rise apartment, which Breuer realized together with Walter Gropius and Herbert Bayer.

The photos are exposed in high light so that the 1a condition can also be seen in detail! The shadow areas or the areas not directly illuminated by the photo light best reflect the natural color tones. Gloss on the photos or grayish or milky areas are also due to exposure or lighting (reflections). The black surfaces are silk matt to silk gloss.
DIMENSIONS:
approx. width: 65cm; depth: 83cm; height: 84cm; seat height: 37cm (factory specifications)
CONDITION:
Stunning! The armchair is technically and visually in an impeccable and unique condition. It has been completely restored with great dedication by the restorer. The leather has been regenerated, recolored, sealed and reupholstered. It has no stains, scratches or holes and is completely odorless. Apart from that, it looks as good as new, except for the seat creases typical of core leather upholstery. The tensioning straps are not worn out and have no tears. The armrests are of course scratch-free and like new. The beautiful chrome frame is also in excellent condition and has no flaws or rust damage.
Once again, it will be extremely difficult to "top" the condition, probably once again the best that is currently available on the vintage market. In Europe, we have not found a Thonet B35 in the advertisements that even comes close to this condition!

NEW PRICE / LIST PRICE / COMPARATIVE PRICE:
The armchair is no longer available new in this special edition with tensionable leather straps!
You can currently only get this armchair in the slimmed-down and much cheaper version S35L with a central tubular steel tensioning bar (does not correspond to the original design by Marcel Breuer!). This cheaper version in core leather currently costs 3177 euros at Thonet, and is available from dealers from 2700 euros.
Price information: For the model with leather tensioning straps, you can order a replacement cover from Thonet if necessary. This replacement cover in core leather costs 2502 euros incl. VAT, almost as much as a complete armchair in the slimmed-down S35L version!

OUR PRICE:
Our Whoppah price includes the Whoppah gross commission of approx. 20% in total (16% net commission + 21% pro rata Dutch VAT = 19.36%).
TRANSPORT:
We have found that transportation by Whoppah courier is sometimes considerably (100-150%) higher than the market price of the usual removal companies and furniture couriers! We can organize a cheaper transport within Germany, to the Netherlands, to neighbouring German countries or an EU transport for you if necessary. Inexpensive non-EU transportation by general cargo forwarder in a special wooden crate may also be possible.
!!! However, it is absolutely necessary to contact us before purchasing !!!
TRANSPORTATION COSTS:
e.g. Germany, approx. 99 - 119,- Euro, distance kilometer dependent
e.g. Netherlands approx. 99 - 149,- Euro, single trip directly to the buyer, depending on distance (also possible on weekends!)
!!! The transport costs stated under "Shipping is carried out by the seller" only apply to transport within Germany excluding islands!!!
Unfortunately, an individual presentation of the transportation costs is currently not possible at Whoppah.
