19th-century French bénitier de chevet / bénitier mural in brass, with openwork palmette and volute ornament.
This is a refined French or Franco-Belgian bénitier de chevet, crafted from a brass and copper alloy. The design is characterized by a classical form that reflects the historical and religious context of the object.
The holy water vessel consists of a metal frame with graceful, symmetrical curls and a central floral or shell motif. The base consists of a semicircular holder in which a glass insert rests, intended for holy water. The combination of the gold-colored metal and the transparent glass creates a restrained yet elegant appearance.
The object is in good condition, commensurate with its age and use. The metal has developed an authentic patina that contributes to the historical character of the piece.
