Product description
19th century Bohemian crystal bowl decorated with monuments from the Rhineland Palatinate Here's a rare cup from German luxury craftsmanship in the second half of the 19th century! These souvenir cups in engraved amber crystal were very popular around 1850-1880, when the elite took the "Grand Tour" on the Rhine. A true souvenir of European travels of yesteryear, this amber-colored Bohemian crystal bowl is entirely handcrafted, made from blown, molded crystal with wheel-engraved decorations of small scenes of monuments in the Rhineland Palatinate region. These Bohemian crystal objects were prized for their vivid colors and symbolism. Intended more as decorative display or collector's items than utilitarian tableware, they are a veritable expedition trophy in 19th-century Europe, where great discoveries and travel were central to the intentions of the elite. This cup and its wheel-engraved decorations are like a real photo album, commemorating each of the milestones of the river voyage: - Johannisberg: famous wine castle in the Rheingau region, famous for its Riesling wines. - Godesberg: former fortress and spa near Bonn. - Salzenburg: famous spa or castle on the Rhine. - Rolandseck: romantic castle in ruins, beloved of 19th-century poets and painters. - Kammerstein (probably Kammerburg): feudal ruin linked to the Lorelei legend. - Nonnenwerth: island on the Rhine with Benedictine monastery. - Rheinfels: one of the largest fortresses on the Rhine, at Sankt Goar. Would you like to have a European souvenir of the German Rhine lands as they were in the 19th century? Bohemian crystal collectors and enthusiasts, wait no longer! Adopt this rare Bohemian crystal goblet to the monuments of the Rhineland Palatinate. Fast & careful delivery in France, Europe and Worldwide.
