This is a set of four teak wooden tea/coffee cups with coasters made in the 1960s. Originally, we believe they had simple shaped glass inserts but can also be used without the glass.
This set is made of simple carved geometric forms in perfect balance and composition. The main body of the cups features a series of inverted scallop shapes with the circular handle fitting perfectly into the top section. The handle itself is quite large in comparison, adding certain expressiveness to the cup but also allowing easy and safe holding. The cup sits in the middle of the round, slightly concave-shaped coaster.
This set is very similar to the work of Vaclav Kautman (1922 - 1981) for ULUV in former Czechoslovakia.
Overall, the set combines great contemporary and more traditional folk design with highly skilled craftsmanship.
The set is in great original condition without any damage. There is only minimal wear gained over the years.
