Product description
An original 1960s Mid-Century Modern ceiling light from former Czechoslovakia, this stylish piece is a standout example of the country’s post-Brussels-Expo design culture. Often affectionately nicknamed the “Umbrella”, its softly curved silhouette evokes a floating canopy, both sculptural and serene.
The lampshade is crafted from a single sheet of rectangular glass with subtly rounded corners. Its surface features a vivid yellow field, animated by two flowing S-shaped bands in red and grey. These lines taper gracefully toward the centre before widening toward the edges, giving the lamp an expressive, painterly quality. Beneath the surface pattern, the three horizontally mounted bulb holders remain discreetly hidden, creating a diffuse, ambient light that feels warm and atmospheric when illuminated.
The steel mounting plate and original fittings contribute to the lamp’s modernist clarity while subtly framing the glass. Designed to sit close to the ceiling, it gives a room a clean, floating light source that works beautifully in both period interiors and contemporary spaces.
This lamp is in excellent vintage condition. The glass is free from cracks, with only a few tiny chips along the upper edge - barely noticeable when installed. The steel components show minimal, age-appropriate wear. All parts are original, fully functional, and ready to be used.
It’s a striking and authentic piece of Czech Mid-Century design-rare, characterful, and unmistakably from the era when Czechoslovak designers captured international attention.
