Capodimonte porcelain figurine depicting a farmer, created by Giuseppe Cappelli in 1958. Ø 18 cm, Ø 14 cm, H 22 cm. Giuseppe Cappè ( ) was a renowned Italian artist, widely recognized for his exquisite Capodimonte porcelain sculptures and figurines. Born in Milan, he lived and worked in Lomagna, near a porcelain manufactory, where he created works that achieved international fame, particularly in the United States. Cappè is considered one of the finest Capodimonte porcelain sculptors. He drew inspiration from the rich Italian Baroque-Alexandrian popular tradition, evident in Serpotta's detailed stuccoes (Palermo), Capodimonte porcelain itself, and Neapolitan Nativity scenes. He blended Baroque roots with verist and neoclassical popular traditions, often incorporating a humorous and creative touch. He began creating sculptures as early as 1946. He worked as head sculptor at the IPA studio and later at King. In 1959, he opened his own artistic porcelain factory, "Cappé"; he continuously created approximately 250 models throughout his life. His figures often depict allegories, rural scenes, and daily life, sometimes with a romantic or humorous touch. He produced both classical lines, often in white and gold porcelain inspired by Greek mythology, and a second line of more humorous and detailed works. Giuseppe Cappè passed away in Lomagna on May 7, 2008, leaving behind a significant artistic legacy in the world of fine porcelain.
