Lalique frosted crystal sparrow-shaped paperweight, made in the 1950s. There are some imperfections, as shown in the images. Further information available upon request. Diameter 11 cm, Diameter 7 cm, height 8.5 cm. Lalique crystals originated from the idea of René Lalique, a French jeweler and glassmaker. During his career, he collaborated with several important brands, such as Cartier and Boucheron, but his first true research into glass occurred in 1890 when he created elements for jewelry, also studying enameling and engraving techniques. In 1921, he founded his glassworks in Alsace, which is still the only Lalique factory in the world. In the mid-1920s, the arrival of Art Deco marked the culmination of his career, which, thanks also to his techniques, created a style expressed through the contrast between transparent and opaque glass. The crystals feature designs inspired by three themes dear to René: women, flora, and fauna. The company he founded continues its long tradition, still dealing today with jewelry, perfumes, interior decoration, and artistic glass creations. It is still today an emblematic expression of French luxury, for the splendor of its jewelry, the wonder of its transparency, and the brilliance of its crystal.
