Complete fish service from the renowned Faïencerie de Sarreguemines. Includes a serving platter, tureen, and deep and plain plates for 6 people.
Datable by the logo to between 1965 and 1978, before ceasing tableware production in 1979. Years later, in 2007, devoured by industrial production, Sarreguemines went bankrupt, and its pieces have remained frozen in time ever since.
ARTISAN ORIGIN:
-Made of glazed earthenware (majolica) using the slip-casting technique, hand-modeled with reliefs that emulate the scales and other details of the fish.
-Glazed in a brilliant caramel/amber color.
-The very fine and imperceptible network of crackle visible up close under the glaze is a natural result of the expansion and contraction of the earthenware and glaze at different rates over time. Far from being a defect, it is an original patina or hallmark that testifies to its age.
-The pin marks on the reverse are Another revealing detail of the artisanal process:
- The tureen is a hand-cast sculptural piece and therefore features a hand-marked base (different from that of the plates and the platter), confirming its status as the undisputed star of the lot.
IMPECCABLE CONDITION:
- A very well-cared-for piece, treated as a collector's item and barely used, from the first family owner.
- Exterior in absolutely pristine condition, flawless and with a magnificent shine.
- Minor imperfections on the support bases or tiny, localized chips in the enamel, detailed below (invisible or imperceptible when serving).
TUREEN (30 x 17 x 16 cm and 1.7 kg)
- Exterior and base flawless.
- Interior with two minuscule enamel losses on the inner edge of the fish's body and another on the inside of the lid (not visible with the lid on).
LARGE ELONGATED PLATTER (56 x 26 cm and 1.5 kg)
- Two Very small chips or flakes of glaze on the upper rim (difficult to spot) that appear as a sheen or color variation without affecting use.
6 PLAIN PLATES (28 cm and 3.6 kg)
-Perfect top
-Bottom: 5 plates perfect and 1 with a small chip on the lower rim (not visible when the plate is facing up)
6 SOUP PLATES (20.5 cm and 2.6 kg)
-Perfect top
-Bottom: 4 plates perfect and 2 with tiny, expected chips on the circular support ring that touches the table (not visible when the plate is facing up)
Note: Anything not mentioned is due to the glare in the photos.
-Total weight without packaging: 9.4 kg of fine French earthenware
INCREASE VALUE:
-As a discontinued dinnerware set from the 1960s/70s, there are no similar complete lots of this iconic caramel series, and the few pieces available are rare. Individual pieces are often found at high prices (which don't guarantee color consistency).
-This lot is a unique opportunity to acquire, all at once and in impeccable condition, a complete and uniform set for 6 people.
