1 of 2 classic vintage Philips wall lamps.
This beautiful Dutch design lamp was designed by Louis Kalff for Philips in Eindhoven (NL) and appears as such in the 1959 catalog.
The materials metal, wood, and glass are combined in a very tasteful manner.
The frosted glass cylinder, which lights up when the lamp is on, appears to float behind the wooden diffuser.
We have two examples of this special lamp available (if not sold), differing in the color intensity of the wooden section. Variant A is slightly darker than variant B. Despite this (minimal) color difference, these lamps are perfectly suitable for use as a set, for example as bedside lamps.
The stated price is per lamp.
Both MCM lamps feature the original porcelain E27 socket. The white cord with switch and European 2-pin plug have been replaced on both examples.
Dimensions:
Height: approx. 36 cm.
Width: approx. 17 cm.
Depth: approx. 18.5 cm.
Both lamps are in vintage condition, with the corresponding signs of wear.
Variant A (photo 9 left lamp):
- the paint on the metal fixture shows some more damage and traces of corrosion;
- the wood is slightly darker;
- the mounting bracket is not original; this bracket is not visible when the lamp is mounted on the wall.
Variant B (photo 9 right lamp):
- the wood is slightly damaged (see photo 15);
- the wood is slightly lighter.
