A beautiful set of three rare vintage armchairs, model "Pinguin." Designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by the Wébé furniture factory in the 1960s. We picked up this set in Beugen, and they originally served as a clubhouse!
There was a major clearance sale, and these three chairs were gone. Say less! We were on our way immediately; Louis van Teeffelen's Pinguin armchairs are quite rare these days. Why are they called Pinguins, anyway? I hear you ask. Well, the armrests look like the flippers on... Pinguins!
The teak frames needed some love when we received them, so we thoroughly cleaned and refinished them. They're just as charming as they were in the 1960s. The frames have a beautiful, organic shape and are still very sturdy.
The seats and backrests are upholstered in black faux leather with a texture reminiscent of elephant hide. If that sounds a bit vague (which we understand), the photos probably explain it better. Because the upholstery and foam are still in good condition, we didn't do anything to them other than cleaning them. That combination of black leatherette and teak is super elegant!
They are true works of art in themselves. You immediately recognize Louis's unique style in the design. Wonderful Dutch design with a Danish aesthetic. Love it!
