Beautiful vintage sideboard, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by Dutch manufacturer Wébé in the 1960s. What makes this piece extra special: the ceramic sailing ship tiles by Jaap Ravelli, at the time one of the most beloved ceramists in the Netherlands. Back in the day, almost every Dutch household had at least one Ravelli piece!
Alright, back to the sideboard. It’s in excellent vintage condition, with only some minor marks and dings here and there, nothing distracting. Crafted in solid teak and teak veneer, the entire piece has been carefully cleaned and re-oiled, bringing back that deep, warm glow it originally had in the sixties. The iconic “smiling” handles are, of course, present — a signature detail in Van Teeffelen’s designs. Combine that with the organically shaped drawers and sculptural base, and you’ve got a perfect slice of mid-century style.
Storage-wise, this piece is a beast: four drawers, two large doors, and one flap door. Good luck filling all of that up. One thing to keep in mind: moving it around is basically a workout on its own — this sideboard is seriously heavy! But that’s exactly what makes it such a high-quality piece. A stunning example of Dutch design with clear Danish influences.
