Sleek, professional, modern and timeless design classic!
When the Dutch "Gelderland" was looking for a connection with the market for modern furniture in the early 1960s, they decided to contact the young designer Rob Parry , according to tradition.
He is also known, among other things, for the red mailbox that can be found in the Dutch street scene for years. After a series of designs, according to various sources, the basis for the "Lotus Armchair" was created, which was included in the delivery program not much later and would grow into a true design icon.
At its introduction it is one of the most strikingly designed seating furniture of its time, the daring step to go for minimalist "Dutch Design Style" turned out to be a bull's eye and the chair was soon for sale in various countries. In the Netherlands, the chair quickly became a frequently seen piece of furniture in (semi) publicly accessible buildings, such as town halls and government offices, but you also often encountered the chair in libraries and theatres.
In the first half of the 1960s, if you are looking for something extremely modern, something of top quality and something extremely comfortable to sit on, then this model is what the exclusive interior design store would like to sell you.
Over the years, various variations on the theme "Lotus" have emerged, which almost all end up in modern interiors, this example has a chromed iron base, wenge wooden frame and upholstered armrests.
This specific example, from the first owner, has been cherished over the years, the iron frame is still in very good condition, the wood is completely original.
The upholstery, including cushions and construction, was completely renewed in 2023 and looks more beautiful than it ever was. The very best foam, the most beautiful fabric, and the best upholsterers with experience with a specific model have made this armchair a true art object.
