DESCRIPTION:
A beautiful vintage dining table with matching chairs by French designer Boris Tabacoff. This dining set is designed in the timeless Space Age style, with sleek chrome legs whose unique shape defines the atmosphere of the room. This is easily explained by Boris Tabacoff's background as a sculptor. The set consists of a table with a thick glass top resting on a chrome leg and four chairs with white leather seats expertly crafted on a matching chrome leg. This dining set bears the name Scimitar and was produced by Mobilier Modulaire Moderne (MMM) in 1970. In short, a unique French Space Age design that will dominate any modern home in the most positive way.
ABOUT BORIS TABACOFF:
Boris Tabacoff, Bulgaria-France (1927-1985)
Boris Tabacoff, born in Bulgaria in 1927, is a Bulgarian designer and one of the artists of the Post-War School of Paris (1945-2000). He was the very first designer from this school to make furniture and objects from plexiglass.
Tabacoff arrived in Paris in the 1950s, but as a sculptor or craftsman, he did not yet have access to the Post-War School of Paris.
He went to a renowned sculptor's studio, founded by sculptor Philippe Scrive on the Rue de Seine. Since 1948, Scrive has been renovating this unsanitary space to house his family, the abstract painter Françoise Staar (1933-2011), and his sculptor friends, who no longer had a studio. Scrive welcomed a maximum of 22 post-war sculptor friends from around the world who shared the art of sculpture and the hope for better times.
In 1954, the Algerian War broke out.
Leaving his family and sculptor disciples devastated, Scrive entrusted his studio to Boris Tabacoff, who took it over in his name.
Boris Tabacoff benefited from thirty glorious years in France, and his studio created and produced Cardin Design.
It featured prominently in art magazines in the 1960s and 1970s, thanks to Cardin, which used plexiglass to produce bathtubs, chairs, tables, and Cardin clocks, as well as prestigious plexiglass desks.
Boris Tabacoff died in France in 1985.

Good condition. The table glass has a small chip in two places. The chairs have a few light, shallow scratches. There are a few slightly darker spots on the back near the armrest, though these are barely noticeable, but I wanted to mention them. One chair has a damaged piece of chrome near the tip of the leg (see the last photos for a better idea of the condition).
