Herman Brood (1946-2001) was a Dutch musician, artist, actor, and author. In 1964, he attended the art academy in Arnhem and became a member of the local beat group The Moans. A few years later, Brood joined Cuby and the Blizzards. He was later dropped from the band when the record company learned of his drug use. A number of uncertain years followed, during which Brood frequently served time in prison for burglary and drug trafficking. In 1974, Herman Brood resumed his musical career and played with various artists, including Vitesse, Jan Akkerman, and the North Holland group Stud. A few years later, Herman Brood formed his own band: Herman Brood & His Wild Romance. In the late 1980s, Herman Brood's career expanded, and he appeared in a play and a feature film, and performed with Bart Chabot and Jules Deelder. He also became increasingly active as an artist in the CoBrA tradition, using large formats, thick black lines, and brightly colored works. Brood primarily worked with paint rollers, spray cans, and felt-tip pens. Texts and slogans are also often found in his work. W10
