Vintage Design
Large-sized, vintage, spherical paperweight made of crystal, designed and handmade in France by artist Marcel Saba, in Biot (French Riviera).
Also known as "sulfure" in French, this small crystal ball is entirely handmade. It contains delicate and subtle inclusions of colored enamels and is meticulously crafted for a unique and refined result. To make it, the artisan selects crystal, then alternates between blowing and dipping it into an array of colors.
The abstract design patterns inside showcase swirls, spirals, twists, or waves that are turquoise blue, with another gold powder/dust décor effect, and air bubbles of different sizes that are both clear and silver-colored, depending upon the angle the paperweight is viewed (see photos).
The piece is in very good original and vintage condition, with very light marks, signs of age, and previous use commensurate with time, as well as a patina of time. No crack or chips. Very light marks of wear at the base where the maker's mark is engraved (see photos).
It is a heavy piece weighing 2 kgs.
