Angelo Gaetano Sciolari (1927–1994)
An exceptional businessman, Sciolari was born in Italy in 1927.
After graduating from architecture school, the young man returned to his first passion, cinema, and in particular, filmmaking.
However, after his father's death in 1949, Sciolari had no choice but to take over the family lighting manufacturing business.
In just a few years, the designer transformed the company and propelled it onto the international stage.
Sciolari was not only a brilliant businessman, but also a creative, prolific, and talented designer. He worked for major design houses such as Stilnovo in Italy in the 1950s, Boulanger, and Stilkronen.
Throughout his career, he designed magnificent and incredible lighting fixtures, such as the “Mod A5011” pendant lamp (circa 1950), the “4079” floor lamp (1965), and, of course, the Cubic chandelier (1970s).
His creations, crafted from both polished and matte metal, feature multiple lighting options, evoking futuristic visions of the nascent space age.
In the 1970s and 80s, his designs were in high demand.
The lighting company Sciolari became the leading Italian seller of lighting fixtures in the United States in 1990 (products imported by America by Lightolier & Progress Lighting).
During this same period, its designs were prominently featured in popular television and film due to their luxurious and futuristic appearance (Sciolari's creations were even seen in the famous series Dallas!).
He then left the film industry to dedicate himself to architecture.
