■ A RADICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL AESTHETIC
The Galerie Les Merciers is pleased to present an iconic duo of 21st-century design: the "Chair One" pair of chairs. Designed in the early 2000s by Munich-based designer Konstantin Grcic and produced by the renowned Italian company Magis, this creation revolutionized contemporary furniture design. Drawing inspiration from geodesic domes and origami, Grcic conceived a seat that is not solid, but rather composed of a network of triangular facets. A true functional sculpture that plays with emptiness and light.
■ INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING AND MATERIALS
The excellence of the Chair One lies in its sophisticated and deliberate industrial manufacturing process. The seat shell is made of treated and lacquered cast aluminum, offering a complex and angular geometry that surprises with its exceptional ergonomic comfort. It rests on anodized aluminum profile legs, contrasting elegantly with the light (cream/off-white) color of the shell. The authenticity of these pieces is formally attested by the inscriptions molded into the underside of the seat: "CHAIR_ONE Konstantin Grcic" and "MAGIS MADE IN ITALY".
■ DETAILED CONDITION REPORT
In the interest of complete transparency for collectors, we specify that these chairs are in good overall vintage condition, with a perfectly sound and stable structure. However, they show signs of wear, inherent to the use of lacquered cast aluminum. As highlighted in our detailed photographs, the edges of the seat have small chips in the paint and scuffs that reveal the raw metal in places. These cosmetic surface alterations do not detract from the piece's solidity and give it an authentic industrial patina.
