Special Montreal chair designed by Otto Frei in stained beech wood and canvas from 1967. The German architect Otto Frei became famous in 1967 when he was commissioned to design the German pavilion at the World Exhibition in Montreal, Canada. He designed and learned to build tents with minimal resources in Chartres and continued and improved his craft throughout his career. It is not at all difficult to see the similarities between Frei's architectural designs when we take a closer look at these chairs. The tapered and slender legs of stained beech wood elegantly held up the saddle leather of the backrest. The frame is reinforced with visible metal plates, resulting in a very subtle detail that is not immediately visible from a distance. Under the chair we see three high-quality sturdy straps that stretch the brown canvas over the seat. When you look at the chair from the side, you will see a slight upward line from the frame towards the beginning of the seat. This not only provides more comfort, but also gives this design an edge. The wear and tear on this chair is consistent with age and use.Light signs of wear commensurate with age.
