The Olivetti Lettera 22 typewriter was designed in 1949 by Marcello Nizzoli and manufactured from around 1950 until the mid-1960s.
Its success was immediate. It was recognized for its design and functionality, receiving the Compasso d'Oro award in 1954.
It was named "best design product of the century" by the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1959.
