An extraordinary and extremely rare bed designed by Osvaldo Borsani and produced by Borsani Varedo in collaboration with Arnaldo Pomodoro. The bed is crafted entirely from hammered brass castings and bronze plates, with horizontal decorative elements in metallic enamel with abstract concave and convex patterns. This exquisitely crafted and important work of applied art, recognized by the Borsani Archive as one of the collaborations with Maestro Arnaldo Pomodoro, is not currently held in the Arnaldo Pomodoro Archive, as these were spontaneous collaborations and were not documented at the time. It is currently the only bed on the market in this version with three rows of rings, two large ones at the top and bottom and a smaller one in the center with decorative plates inside. This precise model with a three-row variant was the direct inspiration for the great artist and furniture maker Luciano Frigerio in the creation of his first cast brass bed, the "Thailandia" model, in collaboration with designers Ciansky and Scelba in the late 1960s. After this, Frigerio in Desio began a production of cast sculptural beds that lasted for decades. The first bed produced in cast brass by Frigerio in Desio was deliberately a direct homage to the work of Borsani, who inspired and influenced the work of the furniture sculptor in the 1970s and 1980s, direct testimony from the Frigerio heirs. The work has been confirmed by the Osvaldo Borsani Archive and is listed under archive number 8605 of 1959. The bed is in excellent original condition with the original patina of the time. It has only been cleaned but not polished so as not to alter its almost 80-year history. It is up to the collector to decide whether to keep it in its original state or want it as new.
