Yak leather: The Yak is a bovine animal that originates from Tibet.
The specific appearance of yak leather arises because yaks are used by the Tibetan people as beasts of burden on the land, dairy cattle for farmers and as transport animals during expeditions through the Himalayas. Yak leather is so strong because yaks live their lives under extreme conditions. Due to these harsh living conditions and the influence of insects, the weathered appearance of the leather is created.
The yak lives in the Himalayas at an altitude of 3000 meters. At that altitude, temperatures can fluctuate strongly and be extremely low (-40°C). The compact skin of the yak protects it against extreme temperatures, making the leather very strong, durable and full of character.
