Product description
Here's a magnificent vintage Thonet chair that has stood the test of time. It's in its original state, in very good condition, with only traces of classic use. You can see that it has been cared for over its long life. It has a certain charm. This authentic chair is made of bentwood with a cane seat. The label is no longer under the seat after all these years, but there's still a trace of its location. The caning is handmade (hence the knots under the seat). Solid and comfortable. This timeless chair hasn't aged a day. It's still very much in vogue around modern or contemporary-style tables, and is sure to create a warm, convivial atmosphere. Dimensions: Height 84 cm, Width: 40 cm, Depth: 44 cm, Seat height: 44 cm, Seat width: 38 cm, Seat depth: 38 cm A little background information: The N°14 chair created by Thonet is the most famous of Thonet's chairs. This iconic bistro chair has become such a classic that it has made such a lasting impression. The No. 14 chair was manufactured in 1859 in a small family business in Germany, in response to an order from Anna Daum, who wanted practical, elegant, space-saving chairs for her café. Orders soon followed, and Michael Thonet, who designed the chair, decided to mass-produce it. By 1930, it had already sold over 50 million units, source: vitra design museum, weil am rhein. The No. 14 chair thus became Thonet's first industrial model. The chair's unmistakable design, ergonomics and value for money would ensure its success in the years to come. A century and a half and five generations of Thonet later, the "bistro chair", now known as no. 14, is still part of the company's catalog, and has become a veritable icon of design history."
