This side chair is a work of art inspired by the elegance of antelopes and sinuous nature of Art Nouveau and Gaudi. This is one of four chairs uniquely designed and handcrafted by Jacques Sarphatie. This piece is seamlessly handcrafted from American Walnut with ebony finishing detail on seat and back, and antelope horns atop. There are no screws or nails, just beautiful woodwork. Hard wax finish.
The antlers make this chair daring but the warm American Walnut beckons to be touched. The chair cradles you and gives style without compromising comfort and functionality. The ebony finishing details are nod to Amsterdam, Sarphatie’s hometown and workshop location. Even the name lends a double Dutch entendre of "antilopen" meaning both antelope and "anti-walk”.
About the Artist:
Jacques Sarphatie (1965) began woodworking while studying at Hout-en Meubilerings College (HMC) Amsterdam and since then has been inventing, designing and creating “slow-made furniture” and emphasizing the importance of understanding the story of how products are made and by whom. Though woods are his preferred material to bring his visions to life, he is continuously evolving design and pushing his creativity with his brand Urban Proof Furniture (UPFU) - challenging people to look differently at everyday things.
